Welcome to the Hillsborough, N.C. Farmers Market Blog!
The Hillsborough Farmers Market is a vendor-operated farmers market serving people in the Orange County, North Carolina area.
We will be located in 2009 at the Home Depot shopping center at the intersection of NC 86 and Interstate 40/85 on the southeast side of Hillsboro, N.C.
Hillsborough Farmers Market will Move to Home Depot
The Hillsborough Farmers Market had its beginning in 1987 in the Southern States parking lot and since that time held their market on various County and private properties within Historic Downtown Hillsborough. For the last 12 years SunTrust Bank has let them use their parking lot in the center of town. Beginning in 2009, the Hillsborough Farmers Market will be held at The Home Depot on NC 86 & I-85.
Paul Reil of the Leadership Team states that “while the HFM doesn’t want to leave its long-time home in the downtown historic district we realize we are continually growing and need more space for vendors as well as customers. As a plus there will also be plenty of room for on-site parking at the Home Depot location.” The winter market will be held the first and third Sat. from 10-noon beginning on January 3rd. The Saturday market will be held from 8-Noon beginning March 21, 2009 and Wednesdays from 4-7 p.m. beginning in May. There will be music entertainment from 10-12, activities for kids as well as guest chefs and special event days.
The market will continue through December 20 in the SunTrust parking lot in downtown Historic Hillsborough. Beverly Blythe of the Leadership Team said that the market is fortunate to have so many customers and friends. “We’ve been blessed for over two decades with an outstanding and wonderful relationship with the Hillsborough community, a community that includes the individual, the local businesses, and the visitors to our town”. She also feels “the market will continue to grow and build on the 23 year tradition that we have all shared and built together.”
If anyone is interested in being a vendor for 2009, the application and guidelines are available on line at www.hillsboroughfarmersmarket.org or by calling 732-8315.

AN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE HILLSBOROUGH FARMERS’ MARKET
After many years, here we grow again!
The Hillsborough Farmers Market (HFM) had our beginning in the old Southern States parking lot (what will soon be the new public library on Margaret Lane) in June, 1987. Since that time, the market has been held on various County and private properties within Historic Downtown Hillsborough. For the last 12 years we have graciously been allowed to provide a Saturday market on the parking lot of the SunTrust Bank. However, change is inevitable and we are happy to announce our move to a new location in Hillsborough, at The Home Depot at Hampton Point located on NC 86 & I-85. Our Saturday market will begin at this new location for our winter market the first and third Sat. from 10-12 on January 3 and every Sat. from 8-noon beginning March 21, 2009. We look forward to seeing you at THE HOME DEPOT.
Why are we moving?
Orange County Government has banned us from their parking lot adjacent to the SunTrust Bank and removed access to County owned bathrooms for both our vendors and customers. The Town of Hillsborough has had our directional signs removed. SunTrust Bank has terminated our three year lease to use their parking lot for a Saturday morning market. Orange County and the Oversight Committee of the new Public Market House will not currently allow the Hillsborough Farmers Market as an independent organization to operate our Saturday market at the Public Market House. We regret having to leave the Historic Downtown District, but at this time have no other options.
What to look forward to at our new location
The HFM vendors will move to this new convenient location in Hillsborough. There will be lots of room for new vendors. Our market hours will remain the same: Saturdays from 8-Noon beginning March 21, 2009 and Wednesdays from 4-7 p.m. beginning May, 2009. There will be plenty of on-site parking, music entertainment from 10 -12, activities for kids as well as guest chefs and special event days.
Our market is so fortunate to have you, our customers, and our friends, who have helped us to enrich our lives and our community by gathering each Saturday morning to share the bounties of our wonderful local produce, baked goods and crafts and enjoy the talents of our local musicians. Together we will continue in our new location and continue to build on the 23 year tradition that we have all shared together.
